STRABISMUS TREATMENT

The situation where the eyes are directed towards different points is called strabismus. There may be strabismus inward, outward, upward or downward due to the direction of one eye towards another point.

This problem can always occur or occur occasionally. Some children may have congenital slippage, while others may develop later.

Once the shift begins, the brain may suppress the image of either eye or double vision may occur..

If untreated, two eyes called binocular vision and stereopsis are prevented from seeing together in depth, and lazy eye may develop.

Strabismus in adults often occurs with the progression of childhood strabismus that has not been treated or treated successfully.

Sometimes, strabismus develops as a result of trauma or illness in adults and causes double vision.

The form of treatment varies depending on the type of strabismus. Generally, glasses, prism or surgical treatment is applied. Three steps are applied in the treatment of strabismus.

1-If possible, the underlying cause is treated.

2-Amblyopia is treated.

3-It is tried to be ensured that the eyes look at the same point with the operation.

The earlier the treatment, the less likely to be lazy eye. Some strabismus improves with non-surgical treatment, while others can only be corrected with surgery.

In rare cases, there are no successful treatment options. However, today, many strabismus types can be treated that were previously impossible to cure.
